Description

1908 Jesse Burkett Signed Letter. During his heyday with the Cleveland Spiders in the Gay Nineties and the St. Louis Cardinals at the turn of the twentieth century, Jesse Burkett captured three batting crowns, reaching the .400 plateau twice, and was probably that era's greatest bunter.

On offer here is a rare signed letter from the Hall of Famer who passed away in 1953. Typed on "Worcester Base Ball Company" letterhead, the letter (8.5x5.5" with two vertical folds) has "Jesse C. Burkett, President and Manager" at the top left. Dated "April 4, 1908," it was sent to a representative of the "Cincinnati B.B. Club" regarding a pitcher named "Flaherty." Signed in NRMT black fountain pen, "Jesse C. Burkett." From 1906-09, he guided Worcester to four New England League pennants. A tremendous piece from a nineteen century baseball immortal, Burkett's autograph is one of the rarest early Hall of Famers. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from SGC Authentic.
