1964 Eddie Mathews 438th Career Home Run Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 9.5. This Hall of Fame legend for the Milwaukee Braves moved one step closer to residence in the 500 Home Run Clubhouse during a Houston Astros visit to the Dairy State on August 12, 1964, leading off the bottom of the third inning with a solo shot to score what would prove to be the winning run in a 5-1 Braves victory. Presented is the signature model Hillerich & Bradsby S2 used to launch that long ball, that attribution made through the discovery of a deeply faded ink inscription on the back barrel found during the PSA/DNA authentication process: "438 Homer."While there is no indication of the identity of the author of this notation, PSA/DNA notes in its letter of authenticity that this is a single-year format for 1964, strongly suggesting that the notation is period and thus accurate. The letter notes that the collector submitting the bat for evaluation wasn't aware of the notation upon submission, so it was quite a pleasant surprise for him.
Bat exhibits outstanding use with a repaired handle crack, ball marks, stitch impressions, cleat divots and two colors of rack streaks. Number "41" is written on knob in vintage marker. Length is thirty-five inches (35"), weight thirty-one and a half ounces (31.6 oz.). LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 9.5.
