Description

1955 Brooklyn Dodgers Team Signed Baseball. It's the great David and Goliath story in baseball. The Yankees represented the white collar crowd--bankers, lawyers and captains of industry--fittingly clad in stuffy pinstripes. The Dodgers were "the Bums," championing the downtrodden working class in this "lesser borough" of New York, and always coming up a little short in October. But after falling to the Yanks in 1941, 1947, 1949, 1952 and 1953, "Next Year" finally came on October 4, 1955, when Johnny Podres pitched the lovable losers to a shutout victory in Game Seven to bring the first ever World Championship to the Ebbets faithful.

We are able to link this ONL (Giles) baseball to the championship season because the only common years for Karl Spooner and Dixie Howell with the bums was 1955. Signatures are uniformly 8/10 to 9/10 on the lightly aged orb. Included are: Hall of Famers Robinson (9/10), Campanella (9/10), Hodges and Alston. Others include Labine, Craig, Podres, Walker, Erskine, Amoros, Newcome, Kellert, Hoak, Furillo and Bessent. Please note that the signatures of Duke Snider, Pee Wee Reese, Russ Meyer, Ed Roebuck and Billy Loes have been deemed to be clubhouse versions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
