Description

1928-30 Rogers Hornsby Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 7.5. "I don't like to sound egotistical," Hornsby once quipped for the press, "but every time I stepped up to the plate with a bat in my hands, I couldn't help but feel sorry for the pitcher." There's no denying the immodesty, but we must paraphrase his fellow Cooperstown inductee Dizzy Dean's contention that it isn't bragging if you can back it up. Hornsby certainly could, and did. This particular lumber found Rajah at the peak of his powers, claiming his seventh and final National League batting title (.387) in 1928, then winning the MVP Award during the second and final season of this Hillerich & Bradsby H117's production range in 1929.

Much of this fine work is clearly evident in the ash of this signature model Hillerich & Bradsby (35" and 34.7 ounces) owned and operated by one of the greatest batsmen of the pre-war era. Ball marks adorn the right, left and back barrel. Grain swelling also appears on the front and back barrel. A handle crack with a small chip on the knob has been repaired, and a 10.5"x1.25" piece missing from the back barrel has also been restored. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 7.5.
