Description

1933 Sport Kings Babe Ruth #2 SGC NM 7. While the Great Depression remains one of the most painful eras of American history, it was a magical age for American sport, and for the Goudey Gum Company that serves today as that period's most coveted cardboard commemoration. In an era when even a penny trading card was a luxury item beyond the reach of many, the Goudey company bravely engineered a new era in the collecting hobby, launching the Bubble Gum Age with some of the most beautiful cards ever printed.

Many might consider the Sport Kings issue a risky endeavor. By featuring a virtual cornucopia of different sports, including a few which had largely fallen out of favor, it would guarantee to appeal to sport fans still building up on sporting memories young and those at a stage that made reminiscing and sharing memories a possibility. It should come as little surprise it was the baseball entries which remain the most coveted and none more so than the greatest name in the history of the sport, Babe Ruth who appears here in the twilight of his career.
Graded SGC NM 7. There are over three-hundred examples noted on the SGC census. Eleven of those occupy the NM grade level with another eleven rated higher. Our offered card is in startlingly fine condition with the upmost minimum in evidence to answer the accusation of being ninety-two years old and the same year he clubbed the first home run in All-Star Game history. Bright colors, crisp registration, a virtual absence of handling and an undeniable aura of quality.
