Description
1923 W515-1 Strip Card Partial Set (46/60). When Jefferson Burdick published The American Card Catalog in 1939, he gave the category designation "W" to strip cards, many of which are still rather mysterious to this day. Most are blank-backed and feature comic book style drawings of their subjects. Handcut and printed on lower-quality stock, which discolors easily, attractive examples are difficult to find. Single cards are the norm, which is what is being offered here with the 1923 W515-1 Partial set of hand cut cards. Includes: SGC NM/MT 8: 1 card, #22 Nehf; PSA NM 7: 4 cards, #'s 28 Speaker, 29 Youngs, 49 Alexander, 57 Rousch; SGC NM 7: 2 cards, #'s 14 Frisch, 45 McGraw; PSA EX-MT 6: 2 cards, #'s 4 Bancroft, 24 Stengel; SGC EX 5: 4 cards, #'s 15 Baker, 50 Maranville, 53 Robinson, 56 Wheat; PSA VG-EX+ 4.5: 1 card, #8 Hoyt; PSA VG-EX 4: 1 card, #18 Heilman. Ungraded - #'s 16 Grimes (PR), 55 Hornsby (VG/EX), 58 Collins (VG/EX), 60 Faber (VG/EX). Grades 15% NM to NM/MT, 54% EX to EX/MT, 31% VG to VG/EX.Auction Info
