Description

1961-64 Lou Gehrig Display Bat, PSA/DNA Authentic. The story of the presented Lou Gehrig Hillerich & Bradsby G55 model bat, which measures 35.0 inches in length and weighs 37.3 ounces, is best told by the description offered in the PSA/DNA letter from renowned bat expert John Taube, which reads in part:

"Lou Gehrig vault marked G55 pattern is not game used. The bat was pulled from the Louisville Slugger vault room to be used as a display bat on one of their traveling marketing displays. When pulled from the vault room, only the model G55 was branded on the knob and top of the barrel. For display purposes, a center brand and oversized barrel brand were placed on the bat. The center brand dates to the 1961-64 labeling period. We should also note that the G55 model has no connection to Lou Gehrig. Gehrig model bats are G69 and G76."

The PSA/DNA paperwork which accompanies this bat also includes some fascinating images of the famed Louisville Slugger "vault room" and 1960's Louisville Slugger traveling display. A stunning display piece celebrating one of baseballs greatest players and iconic brands. LOA from PSA/DNA, Authentic.
