Description

1901 Adrian "Cap" Anson Signed Book. He has been aptly called "baseball's first superstar," compiling over 3,000 hits in twenty-seven seasons of baseball and inspiring fellow Chicago resident Charles Comiskey to exclaim, "He was the greatest batter that ever walked up to hit at a baseball thrown by a pitcher." The 1939 posthumous Hall of Fame inductee passed from this life in 1922, making examples of his autograph a tough find for collectors.

Here we find him just weeks into the twentieth century, inscribing an opening blank page of his book, "A Ball-Player's Career" in bold black fountain pen ink. His 8/10 text reads, "Jan. 30th 1901, To my good friend W.G. Nermyer, A.C. Anson." The book is coming loose at the spine but the signed page is unharmed. The first example of his signed biography we've encountered. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
