Description
1968 George Scott Gold Glove Award. Discovered by the same scout that signed Hank Aaron to his first Major League contract, Scott emerged from the cotton fields of Mississippi to establish himself as one of the most sure-handed first baseman in history, his eight career Gold Gloves at the position trailing only Keith Hernandez (11) and Don Mattingly (9). This is the second earned by the Red Sox star, commemorating a season he faltered only nineteen times in 1,434 chances for a stellar .987 fielding percentage. The time-tested design finds a photographic portrait of Scott on a mounted plaque above another engraved, "1B - George Scott - 2nd Award, The Sporting News 1968, American League All-Star Fielding Team." The eponymous gold glove rests atop the display, flanked by a pair of golden baseballs.
General handling wear is evident, along with some fading to the photographic component, but the overall aesthetics remain strong, and the great historical relevance entirely unhampered.
