Description

1922-23 Leon "Goose" Goslin Game Used & Sidewritten Bat, PSA/DNA GU 9. Just nineteen years old when he was spotted by Hall of Fame umpire and fellow New Jersey resident Bill McGowan while playing for a DuPont factory team, Goslin quickly moved up the ladder from Class-C ball to become the leading offensive weapon of the great Washington Senators teams of the 1920's. His 129 runs batted in during the World Championship season of 1924 was fifty better than Joe Judge's second-place tally, and an instrumental factor in the run support supplying Walter Johnson with his American League-topping twenty-three victories that year. By the close of Goslin's illustrious service to our American Pastime, he had charted eleven 100+ RBI seasons, a distinction outshone by only seven players in Major League history.

The supremely rare lumber on offer here is one of just three known Goslin gamers in private hands and quite possibly the first he ever used in the Majors--a reasonable theory considering the "4-23-23" return date of the grease pencil sidewriting beneath a "Le_n Goslin 40 oz." identifier. The budding Hall of Famer would play in just his 121st Major League contest on that date.

Game use is characterized as "excellent" by the experts at PSA/DNA, who reference ball marks on the right barrel and a light coat of pine tar on the uncracked handle and center brand. Length is thirty-five inches (35"), and the typical effects of drying have lightened the wood to a current thirty-seven and a half ounces (37.4 oz.). The experts also note that the combination of the legible sidewriting and the vintage "Goslin" block-lettered stamp in the barrel establishes this as the only Goslin gamer of three known that can be indisputably placed into its namesake's hands. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 9.
