1916 Morehouse Baking Jim Thorpe #176 PSA Poor 1 - The Only PSA Graded Example! The works of Felix Mendelsohn became the basis for Cards sponsored by The Sporting News and a multitude of other brands that can keep collectors busy for a lifetime. They are among the most sought-after cards of the era. At 200 cards, sets allowed the roster to include every great player of the era. "Morehouse Baking Co." from Lawrence, Mass., was one such sponsor and to this day, Morehouse remains one of the rarest brands. Taking a cue from Cracker Jacks, Morehouse cards explain how they could be found in "Sunlight 10c Bread" and bread lovers gathered fifty cards "with no two alike" could bring them to the Morehouse office and be given a "Dandy baseball and bat or nice long jump rope" FREE. This certainly seems to confirm distribution didn't go very far outside Lawrence city limits.

Jim Thorpe's exploits on the gridiron have become the stuff of folklore, making it impossible to calculate the ratio of fact to exaggeration, but there is no question that he was the most talented football star of his age. The stories of his halftime dropkick field goals from the fifty-yard line to entertain the fans may not be gospel, but his three World Championships with the Canton Bulldogs certainly are, and when the National Football League was founded in 1920, it was Thorpe who was chosen League president by the charter members. Parallels could accurately be drawn between Thorpe and his iconic baseball contemporary Babe Ruth, each a "diamond in the rough." His short tenure with various sports/teams resulted in his appearing on precious few trading cards. Offered is one of his rarest from his days with the New York Giants.

Graded PSA Poor 1. Condition is a moot point with rarities such as this. This is the first and still the only example graded by PSA.
