Description

Dated 1926 Urban Shocker Signed 1921 Exhibits PSA Poor 1, PSA/DNA Auto 10. In the first five years of the Lively Ball Era (1920-24), it was this man who led all Major League pitchers in victories, a feat made all the more remarkable by the fact that the record was accomplished as a member of the lackluster St. Louis Browns. However it was Shocker's service to the New York Yankees for which the oddly-named right-hander is best remembered, posting a remarkable eighteen and six record for the fabled 1927 World Champions in his last full season of employment. After making a single appearance for the 1928 Yankees, Shocker's declining health precipitated his release from the club. Just over three months later, Shocker was dead at age thirty-seven.

This is the finest Shocker autograph we have encountered, earning every point of its perfect assessment from PSA/DNA and bearing both a rare middle initial and the delectable notation, "Yankees 1926." The card demonstrates wear and soiling consistent with its century of existence, but our catalog imagery should confirm that the overall aesthetics remain strong. Toning and minor paper loss from scrapbook removal appears on verso. Encapsulated by PSA Poor 1, PSA/DNA Auto 10.
