A stunning Mexico City memento!

Rare 1968 Mexico City Summer Olympics Participation Medal Awarded to Dick Fosbury from The Dick Fosbury Collection. The participation medal awarded to Fosbury at the 1968 Games, which is offered here, is one of the rarest and most beautiful such medals ever conceived.

Designed by Lance Wyman, this extremely rare scarce copper participation medal features Olympics sports pictograms, divided by "Mexico 68" Olympic emblem, on the obverse and "Juegos De La XIX Olimpiada" Mexican legend, between two parallel lines, on the verso. Approximate dimensions of 50x50 mm. Approximate weight of 120 g. Exhibits mild handling wear. Also included in the lot are are the original wooden display box wooden display box (with recess compartment to cradle and display the medal securely), "Mexico 68" emblem (on the lid) and ribbon pull tab (placed under the medal in the recessed compartment). A true Olympic treasure, awarded to one of the greatest Olympians of them all.

It is worth noting that in "Olympic Medals. A Reference Guide," the display box and ribbon are not mentioned. Also, it is Dick's recollection (relayed to us by his widow) that this ensemble was only given to select athletes at the Olympiad. Letter of provenance from widow of Dick Fosbury.
