Description

1914 Cracker Jack Ty Cobb #30 PSA EX 5. If there's a single trading card that best captures the persona of the Baseball Hall of Fame's first resident, it's this steely-eyed portrait from baseball's most celebrated confection. Cobb locks eyes with the viewer with an expression balanced between disinterest and disdain, his collar popped, his hands wide on the bat handle. It is a study of the master in his prime.

That's not just an aesthetic opinion, as the Georgia Peach extended his unbroken dominance of the Junior Circuit to a record eighth consecutive batting title, registering a scalding .368. As the newly hatched Federal League sought to peel spectators away from the entrenched American and National Leagues during the two-season print run of the Cracker Jack issues, Cobb was an essential defender of the old guard, still far and away the greatest offensive weapon in our national pastime.

The most common faults of this ancient issue are absent here, namely candy staining, poor registration and imperfect centering. In fact, the experts at PWCC Marketplace have assigned this card an "Exceptional" ranking, placing it into the top fifteen percent (15%) of the thirteen cards assessed at a PSA EX 5 level. Only eleven have ever graded higher.
