Gifted to an Eastern Conference All-Star teammate!

2003 Michael Jordan Final All-Star Weekend Worn Air Jordan XVIII Sneakers--Photo Matched! The 2003 NBA All-Star Game was effectively a celebration of Michael Jordan, who had already made it known that he intended to retire at the end of the season, with the unflinching assurance that there would be no third comeback. Mariah Carey performed a Jordan tribute concert at halftime at Philips Arena in Atlanta, and fellow UNC alumnus Vince Carter gifted his starting position to the forty-year old GOAT, who would put on a show to demonstrate that his selection to the team had been no charity case. A spectacular fadeaway jumper in the last five seconds of overtime for should have given MJ the game-winner if fellow mega-icon Kobe Bryant hadn't sunk two free throws after an ill-advised foul at the other end of the court with just a second left on the clock to put the contest into double-overtime.

The West would run away with the game in that sixth period but the result never mattered--everybody was there to see Michael Jordan, and everybody walked out of the arena satisfied with the twenty-point performance from the biggest name in the history of the sport.

Jordan wore white Air Jordan 18's on the court that evening, but for his All-Star Weekend photo shoot, he sported these black and blue beauties which the experts at Resolution Photomatching have definitively matched to the images captured in that shoot. We had no doubt the match would be made, as our consignor--a fellow Eastern Conference All-Star who has requested anonymity--told us that he got the shoes (and the bold silver sharpie on the right sneaker) at that event. The tagging inside each shoe reads, "021101 Y3" and size "14," suggesting Jordan sized up a bit for comfort from his standard "13" and "13.5" for competition.

The black suede kicks exhibit light wear consistent with their history and the minor production imperfections of the shoes are a perfect match to MJ's last official All-Star team photo. A marvelous lot to serve as a closing bookend to the finest of private Michael Jordan collections. Note that the 2005 LeBron James sneakers on offer in this Platinum Night auction were consigned by the same NBA All-Star. LOA from Resolution Photomatching. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.
