Description

1871 Mort Rogers Photographic Score Card Douglas Allison - The Only Known Example! Offered is Douglas Allison of the Washington Olympics, he is #25. This is one of the first Mort Rogers score cards to depict a player with the Washington Club. Allison was a baseball innovator who's style of play changed the role of the catcher and the strategy in which the game was played. Allison was a member of the famous 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings. 1871 was the inaugural season of the Washington Olympics and Allison played backstop. His choice of standing behind the batsmen put him in position to better throw out runners trying to steal bases. His lone year with Washington was 1871. His career lasted until 1879 plus a single game in 1883. There is a team cabinet card of the 1871 squad that includes Allison but this is the only collectible we are aware of that features Allison individually. This is the first and currently only known Mort Rogers scorecard of Allison.
