1960 Jack McCartan Game Worn USA Olympic Hockey Team Blue Jersey with Player Letter. While the 1960 American hockey team sported their white jerseys in the final, Gold Medal-winning contest of the Squaw Valley tournament, their biggest and most unlikely victories came in earlier matches, most notably against the Soviet and the Canadian teams which had taken the top of the podium in every edition but one (Great Britain in 1936) since the sport was introduced (rather unexpectedly) at the Summer Olympics of 1920. For those earlier "Miracle" matches, the Americans wore blue.

This is the one that served as the last line of defense for Uncle Sam, worn by the man celebrated as the "All-World" goalie of the 1960 Winter Games. McCartan helped lead his underdog squad to an undefeated 5-0 record in the Final Round of the tournament, sacrificing just eleven goals, the least of any of the finalists.

The garment is a classic beauty, crafted from blue wool/nylon blend with a laced collar and red and white striping at hips and biceps. "USA" stair-steps down the chest in red and white tackle twill, with a patriotic Olympic crest over the heart. McCartan's number "2" adorns each shoulder and the reverse. "Gerry Cosby [size] 48" tagging is affixed at lower rear interior tail. Condition is remarkably strong for a hockey sweater of this advanced vintage, with minimal staining only apparent upon close inspection. Letter of provenance from Jack McCartan.
