Worn in December 2nd game to tie Florida single-season touchdown record!

1989 Emmitt Smith Game Worn & Signed University of Florida Gators Jersey--Photo Matched with Smith Letter!
It's the biggest day on the Sunshine State sports calendar, the annual showdown between the Florida Gators and the FSU Seminoles. Over seventy-five thousand fans packed into Gainesville's Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on December 2, 1989 for the penultimate contest of the Gators' 1989 season, hoping to upset the highly-favored sixth seed.

Ultimately, that goal would fail to come to fruition as the Gators fell by a final score of twenty-four to seventeen, but the contest proved historic for the man who wore this jersey, as the future Pro Football Hall of Fame running back recorded his fourteenth rushing touchdown of the season to pull even with Buford Long's 1952 team record. It also bears mentioning that Smith's 1,599 yards during the 1989 campaign remains a single-season Gators record to this day.

The blue portal mesh gamer is built for the tropical heat, with screened number "22" at front, back and shoulders in white and orange. "E. Smith" is applied to rear nameplate in solid white paint, where a signature appears in 8/10 silver sharpie. Lower left front tail is tagged, "Russell Athletic [size] 46" with a "100% Nylon" flap tag below. Interior collar provides "WeTrak" authentication labeling. Fine wear is evident throughout, suggesting the garment's history extends well beyond that Seminoles rivalry game.

Beyond the irrefutable provenance of a photo match, the jersey's appeal is bolstered by a 2003 letter from Smith himself which reads, in part, "This letter certifies that the following is an authentic piece of game used memorabilia that came from my personal collection."

Smith would make just one more amateur appearance--in the 1989 Freedom Bowl--before becoming the Dallas Cowboys' first-round selection in the 1990 NFL draft, so this jersey represents both Smith's final Gainesville contest and the completion of his still-standing franchise rushing record.
