Description

The best of the best!

1985 O-Pee-Chee Mario Lemieux Rookie #9 PSA Gem Mint 10. His surname translates from French to "the best," and while it's generally his iconic contemporary Wayne Gretzky who claims the victory in debates regarding hockey supremacy, Super Mario very nearly lived up to that billing during his seventeen Hall of Fame seasons. The offered trading card that announces his NHL debut is indeed "le mieux" in the PSA population, garnering the grading service's top assessment to join just over one percent of total submissions at the top of the rankings.

This, of course, is the Canadian version of Lemieux's rookie, a card more desirable than its American Topps counterpart for a couple of reasons. Firstly, Lemieux is himself a Canadian native, born in Montreal and thus best celebrated in the bilingual format of OPC. And while the submitted populations of the two related brands are virtually identical, the OPC is over fifty percent more scarce in Gem Mint 10 condition. Rough cuts and imperfect centering of the Canadian model are the primary causes for the disparity.

But here any and all causes for complaint are nonexistent, resulting in a card just as beautiful as the O-Pee-Chee Gretzky rookie that commanded a record $1.29 million in Heritage's groundbreaking December 2020 auction. Smart investors should see the clear potential in this card's future.
