Description

One of the highest-graded Cobb singles ever auctioned!

1952 Ty Cobb Single Signed Baseball, PSA/DNA NM-MT+ 8.5. Famously quoted as saying, "When I came to Detroit, I was just a mild-mannered Sunday school boy," the iconic Georgia Peach would fuel himself with a steady diet of anger and determination in the years to follow to metamorphose into the sport's most terrifying figure. The dark knight of the first quarter of the twentieth century game, Cobb was baseball's Machiavellian ideal, claiming power and respect through the clenched iron fist rather than the open hand of friendship.

Here we find him nearly a half century after that auspicious debut, his fierce competitiveness long since directed from the baseball diamond to the stock market, where he once again asserted his dominion. We see that confident nature in the bold, oversized side panel application of his essential autograph, underscored with the "1/15/52" date of the occasion. The medium is an Official American League (Harridge) sphere, lightly and evenly toned throughout with faded but still legible factory stamping.

The experts at PSA/DNA assess Cobb's writing and the ball itself at 8/10, with a half-point "bump" for its spectacular aesthetics. Full Grading LOA from PSA/DNA, NM-MT+ 8.5.
