Description

Circa 1950 Bob Shawkey Single Signed "Stat" Baseball. It's one of just two Shawkey singles known, and unquestionably the more impressive of that tiny population. Frankly, we wouldn't believe it if we hadn't seen it with our own eyes, as "stat" balls from the OAL (Harridge) days simply don't exist in the hobby. But here we find just such a hen's tooth from the man who threw the first pitch at Yankee Stadium for the 1923 home opener. Sealed beneath a caramel coating of ancient shellac, his 9/10 blue fountain pen ink reads, "Bob Shawkey, Phila A. 1912-13-14, N.Y. Yankees 1915 to 1931, Mgr. 1930." Unquestionably one of the rarest singles we've offered. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
