Description

The only Matty representation known to exist!

1912 E300 Plow's Candy Christy Mathewson PSA NM-MT 8. Like a tree frog deep in the Amazon River basin, the E300 issue had been an unknown species as recently as the 1950's, so rare and so isolated as to avoid classification for decades in the American Card Catalog. Our 1953 edition bears no mention. It was about the time of the Kennedy administration when a few specimens first came to light, and most players were not checklisted until the late 1960's. Plow's Candy remains the final entry within the "E" card section of the ACC. To date, only 122 examples have found a home beneath a PSA or SGC label.

Here we find the solitary Matty, a representation that does far more than meekly raise its hand to be counted. It derives from a small find in the upper Midwest in the 1970's, likely tracing back to a printer or distributor due to its stunning Near Mint to Mint condition. Clearly this is no early fan's childhood hobby.

The blank-backed beauty features a large photographic image of that easy delivery that made Mathewson the king of the Dead Ball Era mound, framed by text reading "Plow's Candy Collection" and "Mathewson, New York Nationals." The singular rarity, spectacular condition and, of course, the royal stature of its subject establishes this offering as one of the most desirable to toe the auction block in recent memory. An exciting opportunity to take your collection to a place that nobody else could follow.
