Description

Very Rare 1916 Successful Farming Joe Jackson Salesmen Sample SGC 35 Good+ 2.5 - Only Two Graded Examples! Despite playing for 13 years prior to his banishment, Joe Jackson is featured in only a limited number of card sets. He was not yet a regular player in 1910 and was, therefore, not included in the tobacco issues of that time. His banishment following the 1920 season kept him out of the 1920's promotions from the American Caramel Co. and related issues. There are just not very many cards available that feature Jackson or the other seven infamous teammates. The 1916 Sporting News and associated sets are among his most popular card collectibles. He was held in such esteem he was chosen as one of only six players found on these rare "Successful Farming" salesmen sample cards. This image is the classic full-figure batting pose, a cropped version of his Cracker Jack card. No toning, perfect centering, all four corners exhibit modest to little wear at tips, surfaces are clean save for some extremely faint toning on the reverse. Light horizontal wrinkles, ones so difficult to see with just a casual glance account for what is at first a confusing SGC 35 Good+ 2.5 assessment. A strong exemplar for the rating if there ever was one. Currently SGC has graded less than forty total examples of this rare brand, this is one of only two confirmed Successful Farming cards of Joe Jackson - graded or otherwise. This auction features over twenty M101-4/M101-5 advertisers/lettering variants and is one of, if not the, most complete run ever presented in one auction.
