Description
1996 Greater Milwaukee Open Badge/Ticket - (Tiger Woods Professional Debut) PSA Authentic --1/1 Only Slabbed Example! As this text is written, the sporting world continues to hold its collective breath, wondering if the most significant career in professional golf has finally met a challenge it cannot overcome. It's a question that has been asked more than once before, in the wake of personal scandal and a long battle with debilitating back injuries, but Woods has lifted himself off the mat each time, the sport's imperfect but unbreakable hero, and the greatest talent in its full history. But whether or not Tiger is able to yet again reprise his role as the phoenix rising from the ashes, this elite rarity from his professional debut a quarter century ago will retain its status as one of the most significant sports badges (tickets) of the post-war era. Those collectors attempting to place this ticket within its proper context are likely to consider those marking the professional debuts of Jackie Robinson and Michael Jordan, though no full/unused example for either event is known to exist. Stubs for each have recently sold at auction for figures exceeding $40,000 and $30,000 respectively, as a quick review of our Permanent Auction Archives will confirm, and of special note, we recently sold a single-day ticket from this same event for a record-breaking $37,000 (and there were multiple examples of that one).
This is the only slabbed "entire event, which was good for admittance for each day of the tournament" badge within the PSA population for the 1996 Greater Milwaukee Open that saw a twenty-year-old Tiger Woods claim the first $2,544 of approximately $120 million earned on the links and $1.6 billion as a marketing leviathan. Slabbed "Authentic" and exhibiting superb eye appeal and condition throughout, it is easily one of the most desirable Tiger Woods tickets that exists. Though Woods would finish sixtieth in the event, he'd sink the first of twenty professional holes-in-one on the fourteenth hole of the final round to a thundering ovation that would only grow over the years to come. As Woods currently shares the record for most PGA Tour victories with the legendary Sam Snead at eighty-two, this elite investment piece is virtually certain to increase in value whether the Age of Tiger is over, or if he can beat the odds yet again and claim sole dominion of the sport's throne. Encapsulated by PSA, Authentic.
