Description
1909-11 T206 Piedmont 350-460/25 Red Murray (Portrait, "Murr'y" Error) SGC Good 2. Collecting T206's tobacco cards is nothing short of a time-honored tradition in the vintage card realm of the hobby. One would think that just about every approach would be covered, but, within the last decade, collecting mishaps and printing oddities has become fashionable, no longer treated as mere curiosities. Some are famous, like the "Nodgrass" and "Sharpe" errors, but one variation has taken a century to be recognized and cataloged: the "Murr'y" caption variant. The player is Red Murray of the New York Giants. The standard issue correctly reads "MURRAY," but here the "A" is represented by a mark that looks like an apostrophe character. It is a very delicate difference- one very likely to be overlooked, but not to the passionate eyes of T206 aficionados. His portrait is striking with vivid colors surrounded by a bright white frame. With an "Piedmont 350-460 Subjects" ad and factory 25" caption. Graded SGC Good 2. This is one of only two confirmed "Murr'y" error cards graded at SGC.Auction Info
