Description

1951 All-Star Game Sterling Silver Box Presented to Joe DiMaggio. Joltin' Joe received this sterling silver box for being selected to his last All-Star Game in his final Major League season. As he was recuperating from a leg injury at the time, the Yankee Clipper did not actually play in the contest, which the National League won by a score of 8-3.

The top is beautifully engraved "All Star Game. Briggs Stadium, Detroit. July 10-1951. Jo DiMaggio." Inside wooden well contains four chambers for keepsakes. "Gorham Sterling 302" stamped on the bottom, along with the makers mark and "The DiMaggio Collection at public auction" sticker.

At the end of the season, DiMaggio would close out his career with his tenth World Series appearance and ninth championship, passing the Yankees baton of greatness to Mantle just as Gehrig has passed it to him in the 1930's. However, Joe was far from done as the coming years would see him marry Marilyn Monroe, coach the A's, appear in a Simon & Garfunkel classic, and become the face of Mr. Coffee. A rare and one-of-a-kind memento from this legend's Major League swan song.
