Description

1962-63 Bronco Horvath Game Worn Jersey. Here we present a fantastic rarity in the form of a 1962-63 road white wool Toronto Maple Leafs sweater, a style very rarely seen in the hobby. The great number 17 shirt was worn by Bronco Horvath, who played only 10 games with the Leafs that year after being traded from the New York Rangers.

The big center Horvath had the distinction of playing for five of the Original Six teams, only missing the Detroit Red Wings. His years in Boston were his most prolific, as he led the team in points and goals for the 1957-58 campaign. He also lost the Art Ross Trophy for the league's top scorer to Bobby Hull in 1959-60. The margin was a single assist as the players ended the season tied in goals scored.

This beautiful gamer dons the 35-point Maple Leaf chest insignia and features a lace-up collar. Original tagging inside left seam from Doug Laurie Sports in Toronto. Numbers on the sleeves, a new uniform development at the time, are sewn on in blue tackle twill. A large portion of the "7" of the "17" is missing from the left sleeve. The 10.5" "17" on the reverse of the sweater exhibits expected puckering found on jerseys with much game use. Several holes are found throughout with tons of team repairs. It is thought that this jersey may have been used in the minor leagues as it includes some repairs that were not executed by Maple Leaf equipment managers. The bleeding of the blue areas that is so commonly found of road Maple Leafs jerseys is also apparent here.

This fine white Horvath gamer from a Stanley Cup year was also worn by a couple of one game wonders during the 1962-63 season. Bruce Draper and Rod Seiling also each played one game in this fine number 17 shirt. A fitting addition for any serious backer of the Leafs. Not often does a road white come along with the exceptional 35-point Leaf crest. LOA from MeiGray. Guide Value or Estimate: $5,500 - $8,500.
