Description
Early 1950's Coca-Cola Advertising Poster Featuring Floyd Patterson, Kid Gavilan. The presented poster rates among the rarest of all period advertising from the famed beverage company. Again, this poster would only have seen distribution in African-American neighborhoods, its survival to present day complicated both by a small original print run and difficulties of existence in a pre-integration society where blacks had much more pressing matters with which to contend beyond poster collecting. This is unquestionably the finest of its type to reach the modern hobby, if not the only one. The attribution of titles to Gavilan and Jimmy Carter, and the description of the legendary Patterson as a "Promising Professional Welterweight" dates the poster to the early years of the 1950's. Printed date at lower left is illegible. Poster has been linen-backed with some professional restoration providing aesthetics that border on NRMT. Dimensions of poster are 20x36", with the linen expanding the full area slightly beyond.Auction Info
