Description

Circa 1893 John L. Sullivan Signed Cabinet Photograph. He ruled the Heavyweight ranks for a full decade (1882-92), immortalized in the athletic record as the last Heavyweight Champion of the bare-knuckle era, and the first American athlete to earn one million dollars. This splendid image of the Boston Strong Boy dates to just after the 1892 Corbett bout that put an end to his undefeated streak and his career, Sullivan looking every bit the cultured gentleman in formal Victorian era attire. His bold black fountain pen signature on the mount below remains as bold as the date of its application, reading, "Compliments of John L. Sullivan, Age 35 years, To my Friend Parker King." The photo presents as NRMT in its expensive framed display that concludes the dimensions at 18x21". Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
