Description

1887 Jake Kilrain Handwritten Signed Letter--Signed Twice! His bloody 1889 battle with the great John L. Sullivan ensured immortality for this elite Heavyweight bare-knuckler, and this letter is packed to the brim with boxing content, penned to another practitioner of the sweet science. The eight-page correspondence (two sheets folded like greeting cards, with text on all sides) is dated "July 6 '87" and penned entirely in Kilrain's hand. He mentions an impending bout, "I am matched to fitght Pete Nolan on 29 of August 12 rounds," but is appears that the bout never ultimately materialized. The fighter concludes his long message with a desirable "Your friend, John Kilrain," then pens a brief postscript he signs, "Jake." His black fountain pen ink averages 8/10, and the pages exhibit original mailing folds and some minor general handling wear, but nothing that causes any notable distraction. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
