Description
1961 Earl Torgeson Game Worn New York Yankees Jersey. The Earl of Snohomish enjoyed a fifteen-year career, which included a World Series during his final stanza. On June 17, 1961, Earl was sold by the White Sox to the Yankees. On September 2nd, the Bombers redeployed him as a coach. The presented jersey dates from the season of that final hurrah -- the historic 1961 campaign when the Bronx Bombers won 109 regular season games and the World Series, behind the firepower of Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. After New York dispatched Cincinnati in five games, Earl received his World Series ring and retired.Home white flannel pinstriped jersey sports "NY" over the left chest and "29" on the verso, all sewn-on in midnight navy felt. Collar reveals "Torgeson" in navy chainlink on white felt swatch. Tail contains "Rawlings 44" label with 61 Set 2" below in navy chainlink. Also, a "62" in faded black sharpie appears to the left of the Rawlings tag from when the jersey was carried over for Spring Training/minor league use. Please note that the "29" has been replaced. Exhibits solid wear and displays well. An important artifact from an important season. Please note that the jersey was later re-issued to and game worn by Hal "Skinny" Brown in 1962 and 1963.
