1938 Chicago Cubs Team Signed Baseball. The scrappy Cubs clawed their way back to the top of the National League for the sixth time since their last Series victory thirty years early, but the World Championship hibernation would continue thanks to a four-game Yankee sweep. Cardinals Gashouse Gang pitchers Tex Carleton and Dizzy Dean reunite here, with Gabby Hartnett and Tony Lazzeri adding further star power. Other notables: Galan, Collins, French and Russell.
