Description

1888 Abner Doubleday Handwritten Signed Letter. Whether or not Doubleday was the true Father of Baseball is a matter of dispute, but his supreme relevance to the game's early development most certainly is not, nor is the enormous appeal of any relic touched by his hand. Here we present a flawless page of correspondence, written to an author who had penned a biography of his relative who had been a Lieutenant Colonel in the Civil War. "I always intended to purchase The Life of J.P. Garesche U.S.A. as written by you, but having been sick unto death and having had a good deal to occupy me I have never done so. I will send for a copy at once..." The single unlined page measures 5x8" and is signed "Abner Doubleday" in the same 9/10 black fountain pen ink that comprises all writing. Page exhibits original mailing folds but no other distractions. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
