The LeRoy Neiman New York Jets Original Art Collection.

"Bring cash," advised Gerry Philbin to the consignor of this remarkable collection as he set off to visit Neiman's Manhattan studio in the early 1970's. The star defensive end for the New York Jets had built a friendship with the popular sports artist over the course of a season chatting with the iconoclastic visionary as he sketched from the sidelines, and Philbin knew that money tended to be tight despite Neiman's growing fame. Our consignor cannot remember the exact price he paid for the nine works that follow, but surely the four decades that have passed since the transaction has proven it to be a solid investment. Neiman's star continues to rise, particularly in light of his recent passing, and these works celebrating an unforgettable era in New York Jets history, one in which they shocked the world with a Super Bowl III victory, should rank high in his oeuvre.
