Description

1915-16 Chicago Whales Federal League Promissory Notes Lot of 2. From the same collection that spawned the 1917 Charles Weeghman signed check presented in this auction comes this pair of voided promissory notes relating to the Chicago baseball pioneer's ownership of the short-lived Chicago Whales franchise of the Federal League. Each is a guarantee of investment repayment, with the capital likely used at least in part to cover costs related to the building of Wrigley Field, originally called Weeghman Park before financial misfortunes resulted in a sale to the Wrigley family. Each note is missing the lower right corner, claiming the Weeghman signature in once case but only skirting it in the other. Otherwise moderate creasing is the only condition issue of note. An essential component of any comprehensive Cubs collection. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
