Description

1969 Topps Earl Monroe #80 PSA Mint 9 - None Higher. His nickname was The Pearl and his shots from the outside always looked as smooth as silk when they swished through the cylinder. This 1969 Topps rookie card features one of the NBA's greatest ballhandlers of all time: Earl Monroe. As a shooting guard with the magic touch, Monroe was taken with the No. 2 overall pick in the 1967 NBA Draft by the Baltimore Bullets. He honed his skills over the next 13 seasons with both the Bullets and the New York Knickerbockers and won his only NBA title with the Knicks in 1973.

Card #80 from the '69 Topps series shows the consummate showman holding aloft a basketball while donning his Bullets warmups. As part of the company's "Tallboy" (2-1/2"" x 4-11/16"") effort for 1969, Monroe's card remains a cherished collectible for any knowledgeable hoops fans. He was a true student of the sport whose game continued to evolve from the time he was inventing moves on the court at John Bartram High School in Philadelphia. A four-time NBA All-Star who was named the league's Rookie of the Year in 1968, Monroe retired from the game he loved following the 1979-80 season with 17,454 points to his credit. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1990. Graded PSA Mint 9. One of only 31 cards graded MINT with none rated higher.
