Description
1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #181 PSA NM-MT 8. Just seven examples have been able to survive in better condition. Babe Ruth's status in baseball was well conveyed with his four appearances in the R319 Goudey edition from 1933. Gehrig did manage to appear twice but Goudey saw fit to use the same illustration twice. Card #181 pictures the Babe holding his trusty lumber, gazing upward from within a highly detailed portrait. This could easily be a brief, quiet moment for Ruth, sitting on clubhouse steps, watching the current Yankee batter, torn between placing the ball into the left, center or right field stands. This is an eye-catching copy of one of the hobby's more desirable Ruth collectibles. The lack of surrounding elements only adds to the aura that is the "Babe. " It takes but a few seconds to realize one is beholding something special. The clean, white borders surround an image placed just to the right of center with perfect print registration. This pinnacle of craftsmanship allows every subtle detail to emerge. There is but the faintest hint of wear to three outer corner tips with the fourth displaying a slightly elevated level of fuzziness, but well within the restrictions of the NM-MT 8 grade wisely assessed by PSA. The reverse offers a nicely struck print in that unmistakable Goudey green ink. Even the traditional reverse print ghosting (overkill from the sheet placed under this one) is barely noticeable keeping the back as visually enticing as the front. For the advanced Ruth collector or the condition conscious baseball card fan with the desire to own a piece of history, one's endurance and stamina would surely be put to the test trying to locate a finer specimen.More information about Babe Ruth Sports Player.
