Description

1970's Red Auerbach "Red On Roundball" Screen Worn Boston Celtics Warmup Jacket Also Game Worn by Kevin Stacom/Don Chaney from The Red Auerbach Collection - The Nate D Grate Collection. From the mid-1970's to the late 1980's, Red produced a series of instructional video shorts which used to air during NBA games and were later available on VHS tapes. Each video would focus on a different aspect of the game, including offense, defense, training, basketball philosophy, team play and character building. For Red, basketball was more than a game, it was "a way of life." And Red was more than a basketball coach/genius, he was also a "life coach" and his basketball lessons espoused many life lessons which used to be an integral part of American sports for many decades.

Here is one of the Boston Celtics warmup jacket that Red can be seen wearing in his Red On Roundball video shorts. The Kelly green knit with ribbed green/white trim sports "Celtics" arched across the chest and diecut shamrocks on the sleeves, all sewn-on in white/yellow tackle twill. Verso displays "Auerbach" in green applique on a white knit nameplate, affixed with Velcro tabs. This is the same type of nameplate which were used during Celtic training camps of the era. Single "Sand-Knit/Medalist" label in collar reveals "27" (over what appears to be a "12") in vintage black laundry marker. Those numbers indicate that the jacket was also game worn by guards Kevin Stacom ("27") and, possibly, Don Chaney (#12"). Exhibits nice NBA game wear and "Red On Roundball" wear. Letter of provenance from the exclusive agent for the Auerbach estate. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
