Description

1962 Willie McCovey Worn San Francisco Giants "World Series Reunion" Jersey, Jacket, Presentational Photo & Photo Album Lot of 6 from The Willie McCovey Collection. On June 24, 2007, the Giants celebrated fortieth anniversary of its historic 1962 World Series team which barely lost to the Yankees in a hotly contested seven-game series. In fact, McCovey came within one three of being the Series hero when he hit, what he later dubbed "the hardest ball he ever struck," a vicious line drive off an inside fastball from Series MVP Ralph Terry which was snagged by a perfectly positioned Bobby Richardson.

This lot includes: 1) home white 1962 Giants home flannel throwback (unworn); 2) black "SF" pullover jacket (which Stretch wore at the reunion, toothpick in pocket); 3) 1962 presentational team photo (double-matted and framed 18.5x17"); 4) hardbound reunion photo album with images from that day; 5-6) two images of Mac wearing the pullover jacket featured in this lot. There are also additional images of him wearing the pullover in the photo album. This lot presents in overall NM condition. Letter of provenance from Willie McCovey's widow.
