Description

1917 "Shoeless Joe" Jackson Original News Photograph, PSA/DNA Type 1. What a difference two years can make. This marvelous image finds one of the greatest hitters in Major League history cruising toward World Championship glory with his 1917 Chicago White Sox, but a fateful decision two years later would destroy one of the greatest careers of the early twentieth century. The recent passing of Pete Rose has led Major League Baseball to end the banishment of all deceased players so there's good reason to believe that Cooperstown will hang a Jackson plaque before the decade is over, making this a great chance to welcome Jackson into your own collection before he's welcomed into the Hall of Fame.

The 8x6" photo presents very well but we must note some wrinkling on the right side of the image that becomes apparent in raking light. Typed caption on verso discusses the upcoming Fall Classic, with an "Oct 8 1917" date stamp falling between Games Two and Three of that Series. Editorial handwriting appears nearby. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, Type 1.
