Description

1961 Bill "Moose" Skowron Game Worn New York Yankees Jersey. Number three on the Yankees' home run chart with twenty-three in 1961, the stocky first baseman certainly played a key role in the Bombers' eventual World Championship this season. For the fifth straight season, Moose Skowron was an All-Star as he helped the Yankees to the top of the baseball world. This "Spalding size 44" jersey witnessed the M&M Boys duke it out for Babe Ruth's time-honored single-season home run record in 1961. A replacement interlocking "NY" team logo is instituted over the heart which replaced a Richmond Virginians logo. Following its use in '61 by Skowron, the jersey saw a little Minor League use. The replacement Yankees emblem does appear to be period. The tail features a Spalding manufacturer's tag, size indicator and "61" (year) reference straight stitched. "Skowron" appears in the cowl to a felt swatch. Part of the swatch is missing but the tag is reinforced. The number on back is original. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
