1925 Exhibits Lou Gehrig Rookie PSA Good 2. Lou Gehrig's 1925 season marked the true beginning of one of baseball's most legendary careers. Though he had appeared in a handful of games in prior seasons, it was in 1925 that Gehrig firmly established himself in the Yankees' lineup. On June 1, he pinch-hit for shortstop Pee-Wee Wanninger, a seemingly minor moment that launched his record-setting consecutive games streak. Taking over full-time at first base from Wally Pipp shortly after, Gehrig went on to play in 126 games, hitting .295 with 20 home runs and 68 RBIs. His .531 slugging percentage and .393 on-base mark hinted at the dominant force he'd soon become. Even in a year where Babe Ruth's "Bellyache Heard 'round the Word" left a void, Gehrig began to show the durability and production that would define his Hall of Fame career.One hundred years later, this quiet and dignified legend of pre-war Big Apple baseball remains one the most revered figures ever to don the pinstripes, and this is unquestionably his most important and coveted trading card. Even in the baggy baseball fashion of the day, the Iron Horse's powerful physique heralds the power surge to come. The card itself exhibits a degree of handling wear consistent with its advanced age, but we'd consider this a particularly fine example for its PSA Good 2 technical assessment.
