Description
The shoe style that started a basketball revolution
1986-87 Magic Johnson Game Worn Converse Shoes - From Los Angeles Lakers' Championship Season! Before sneakerheads became infatuated with Air Jordans, Kobe's rookie Adidas kicks and LeBron's Nikes, "Converse All Star" shoes were all the rage. During the most exciting era in the history of NBA basketball, Converse's marketing program with Magic Johnson and Larry Bird turned the heads of sports fans everywhere, and the offered pair of kicks were worn by the Lakers legend himself during the team's 1986-87 championship season.Displaying the proper "MAGIC" purple lettering on the sides of each, and measuring at approximately "[size] 14" (no size tag), they are absolutely breathtaking in every way and come with a story equally as impressive. After NBA games at the MECCA Arena in the 1980's, a number of the Milwaukee Bucks ball boys would receive game-worn shoes from their favorite NBA stars. Not totally comprehending the collector's value of the shoes, some of the ball boys made their way to N. 60th & W. Capitol and the shoe store at famed Capitol Court Mall, where they would trade the players' game-worn shoes for new sneakers that they could wear.
The shoe store became renowned for displaying NBA superstars' game-worn shoes in its window display. It was that spot where shopping center customers could view kicks worn roundball superstars such as Larry Bird, Manute Bol, and of course, Magic Johnson. Unfortunately, the mall eventually went out of business due to Milwaukee gangs taking over and the abundance of newly built shopping centers in the area, but the memories of the shoe display at Capitol Court remains.
Accompanied with a full LOA from Milwaukee-based authentication company MEARS and the February 23, 1987 Sports Illustrated magazine (definitive style match), these shoes show heavy wear, while their only detractor is the noticeably cracked interior lining, which is common for shoes of this nature. One of only a handful of Magic shoes from this era ever offered publicly, these Hall-of-Fame-caliber showpieces will be sure to stand out in any high-end basketball memorabilia collection. LOA from MEARS, Authentic.
