1949 Pee Wee Reese Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 8.5. His brave support of Jackie Robinson in 1947, a stand that put him at odds with a great deal of his friends and family back home in segregated Kentucky, may be the Hall of Famer's greatest baseball legacy, but if on-field production is the considered metric, one could effectively argue that the 1949 season was Reese's finest. Reese stepped on home plate 132 times during that National League Championship season, his only year atop the Senior Circuit's rankings. A fifth-place finish in Most Valuable Player voting was likewise a career-best for Reese. He'd follow the regular season with a strong World Series performance in a losing effort against the hated Yankees, batting .316 with a double and a home run.Reese has been a notoriously tough target for advanced bat collectors despite sixteen seasons of Dodgers service, and the rarity is amplified significantly for those models bearing this elite vintage. This signature model Hillerich & Bradsby M117 is just the second 1949 gamer to surface on the hobby's major auction block. The experts at PSA/DNA characterize game use as "excellent," referencing ball marks, stitch impressions and green bat rack streaks. The handle remains uncracked.
