Description

Three days before the Babe's World Series debut!

1915 Babe Ruth & Boston Red Sox Original News Photograph, PSA/DNA Type 1. Original paper caption affixed to verso of this compelling shot tells us that these American League Champions are gathered at the office of a local news photo establishment to give their pictures the once over. One of those men, of course, is a rookie by the name of Babe Ruth, who would make his Fall Classic debut as a pinch hitter in the first game of the 1915 World Series just three days after this image was snapped. His teammates barreling toward the World Championship are, from left to right, catcher Forrest Cady, pitcher Ernie Shore and pitcher Ray Collins.

Rookie photography of the game's greatest figure is highly prized in the collecting community, with a pitching shot commanding a winning bid of $468,000 in our February 2023 Platinum Night auction. This crystal-clear image measures 5.5x8" in size and presents nearly perfectly, with a couple light wrinkles only apparent in raking light. Verso bears aforementioned paper caption and "Underwood & Underwood" stamping. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, Type 1. LOA from PSA/DNA, Type 1.
