Description

An extraordinarily rare time capsule!

1960 Fleer Football Wax Box with Twenty-Four Unopened Packs. The keen insight and retirement planning of one man is the reason we have the amazing selection of unopened Fleer wax boxes found in this and future auctions. The 1960 Fleer football series helped break the Topps monopoly on trading cards. 1960 marked the first year of the American Football League. Fleer jumped at the opportunity to showcase the new 8-team league before Topps could sign them. The 132-card issue would be the first of four annual editions for Fleer and came out so quickly many of the cards show players in their college uniforms. Notable stars include Sid Gillman, Sammy Baugh, George Blanda, Paul Lowe, Billy Cannon, Hank Stram, Tom Mix rookie and the rookie card of future HoFer and Congressman Jack Kemp. Any one of these cards could be side any one of the twenty-four packs in Mint or Gem Mint condition.

The offered wax box contains twenty-four 5-cent wax packs and good luck finding others. This surprising discovery represents only the second time since 1999 a complete box is being presented up for auction that we have found in our databases. The top and back panels show some buckling and one crease. The diecut of the multi-color lid designed to enhance visual appeal on store shelves has separated. Aside from the noted, the outer box is near-mint and all packs displays beautifully. This is not a box you will have the chance to acquire in the near future.
