Description

1927 New York Yankees Signed Baseball with Ruth & Gehrig, PSA/DNA NM 7. Exceptionally high-grade relic almost certainly derives from the final days of the 1927 Major League season, as Murderer's Row sent the Pittsburgh Pirates down to Davy Jones' locker in a four-game World Series sweep. We come to that conclusion from the unusual combination of five New York Yankees signatures and an ONL (Heydler) baseball, a format that the World Champions would have only encountered in Fall Classic competition.

Intriguingly, the unusual green-tinged ink that survives here in 9/10 condition recalls another 1927 Yankees sphere from our past, a full team ball from the estate of Hall of Fame outfielder Earle Combs that commanded just short of $150,000 in our February 2013 Platinum Night auction. If you'll recall, that OAL ball, bearing a single-season stamping format likewise linking it to 1927, also suggested World Series derivation, as the roster matched the one operational in October. It is nearly certain that both balls were signed at the same time, with the same writing utensil.

This one finds Home Run King Babe Ruth in his standard sweet spot position, with the American League MVP Lou Gehrig to the west. Bob Shawkey, John Grabowski and Pat Collins appear to the north. Typical age-toning results in a 5/10 rating from PSA/DNA for the baseball itself, but it's the Mint ink that commands the viewer's attention and establishes this as one of the great autographed treasures of the Yankees' most delectable vintage. Full Grading LOA from PSA/DNA, NM 7.
