Description

1996 Greater Milwaukee Open Practice Round Signed Full Ticket (Tiger Woods Professional Debut) PSA EX 5, PSA/DNA Auto 10 - First Known Signed Exemplar. As this text is written, the sporting world continues to hold its collective breath, wondering if the most significant career in professional golf has finally met a challenge it cannot overcome. It's a question that has been asked more than once before, in the wake of personal scandal and a long battle with debilitating back injuries, but Woods has lifted himself off the mat each time, the sport's imperfect but unbreakable hero, and the greatest talent in its full history.

But whether or not Tiger is able to yet again reprise his role as the phoenix rising from the ashes, this elite rarity from his professional debut a quarter century ago will retain its status as one of the most significant sports badges (tickets) of the post-war era. Those collectors attempting to place this ticket within its proper context are likely to consider those marking the professional debuts of Jackie Robinson and Michael Jordan, though no full/unused example for either event is known to exist. Stubs for each have recently sold at auction for figures exceeding $40,000 and $30,000 respectively, as a quick review of our Permanent Auction Archives will confirm, and of special note, we recently sold a single-day ticket from this same event for a record-breaking $37,000 (and there were multiple examples of that one).

The presented full ticket is for access to Tiger Woods' practice round for the Open where he was making his professional debut. To our knowledge this is the first-known GMO full ticket from this event which is has been signed by the golfing god. Minor evidence of handling is evident. Tiger's autograph includes a "Best Wishes" salutation. PSA/DNA graded the signature a perfect Gem Mint 10. We are included four 4x6" photographs taken by our consignor from the practice round as a bonus. This was also the day when he uttered the famous words "Hello World" during his introductory press conference. Because Woods didn't commit to the tournament until midweek, he was not on hand Monday or Tuesday for the those practice rounds. This was from the very beginning of his GMO experience. Encapsulated by PSA, EX 5/Autograph Gem Mint 10.
