Description

2003 Funny Cide at Saratoga Original Drawing by LeRoy Neiman. Funny Cide came up a Belmont Stakes short of the 2003 Triple Crown, and we find the popular thoroughbred coming out of the stables at Saratoga in August of that year, though he'd ultimately be scratched from the race due to a respiratory illness. It's still a dazzling example of Neiman's multi-faceted mastery, using primarily pen and ink on paper to supply the same brand of visual intrigue he accomplished with oil paints. Neiman identifies the three subjects of the work and the setting in his distinctive scrawl, signing the work at right edge. Dimensions are 11.5x10.5", matted and framed to a museum-quality 22x22".
