1956-57 Boston Celtics Multi-Signed Yearbook. The 1956-57 Boston Celtics were a transformative team that captured the franchise's first NBA championship and marked the beginning of a dynasty. Coached by Red Auerbach, the Celtics were led by a dynamic roster featuring Bob Cousy, Bill Sharman, and rookie sensation Bill Russell, who joined the team partway through the season after finishing his college and Olympic commitments. Russell immediately revolutionized the game with his defense and rebounding, helping to solidify the Celtics as a defensive powerhouse.The team finished the regular season with a 44-28 record, then battled through the playoffs to reach the NBA Finals, where they defeated the St. Louis Hawks in a dramatic seven-game series. The decisive Game 7 went to double overtime, with the Celtics winning 125-123 in one of the most thrilling Finals in league history. This season marked the beginning of Boston's unprecedented dominance in the NBA, with Russell and Auerbach leading the team to 11 championships over the next 13 seasons.
